Philip S. Sousa is a partner specializing in estate planning, including estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax planning, and trust and estate administration. Philip is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law.

 

Philip’s estate planning practice focuses on basic estate planning documents, consisting of revocable trusts, wills, general durable powers of attorney and advanced health care directives, as well as more sophisticated estate planning techniques, including, special needs trusts, shelter trusts, marital trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, generation-skipping trusts, and charitable trusts. Philip’s trust and estate administration practice focuses on counseling trustees, executors and administrators through either the informal trust administration or formal probate process in order to assist them in accomplishing their duties, discharging their fiduciary liability, and completing the administration in the most efficient and effective manner.

 

Philip received his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2011 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis in 2005. Philip was named a Northern California Rising Star in 2021 and a Super Lawyer in 2024 by Super Lawyers Magazine. Philip is a member of the State Bar of California’s Trust and Estate section, a member of the Jerry A. Kasner Estate Planning Symposium’s Planning Committee and a member of the San Francisco Foundation’s Professional Advisors Council.
